Economist names UR's Simon school 17th-best

The University of Rochester's Simon Graduate School of Business Administration has been named the nation's 17th-best business school in a new ranking by Vanderbilt University economist Mike Shor.

Shor used a value-added approach. He took the well-known ranking by U.S. News & World Report and came up with predicted starting salaries for graduates based on their GMAT scores and college grades. He then compared the predicted salaries with the actual salaries and re-ranked the schools by the pay gains the school appears to provide.

The Simon school was 25th in this year's U.S. News ranking.

The top three business schools in Shor's ranking were Cornell, Indiana and Virginia.
